Simplicity, That Is What Matters

One of my favorite outdoor activities in the city is simply going for forest bathing in a green park nearby after lunch. The term comes from a Japanese practice of taking a slow and mindful walk in nature, or 'taking in the forest atmosphere'. Oftentimes, the fast pace of city life and the busyness of a creative career can take the energy out of us.

For the past few weeks, I have been exploring a few studies on the subject of flower 'rose' and 'sunflower'. Keeping it simple with less brushstrokes and lineworks and simply just letting the subject speak for itself! As the background grows dimmer, the flower tends to stand out more.

To my surprise, the result was intriguing as the colors of the flower stood vibrantly strong and captivating to the eye. As I kept looking, their personality and character simply drew my attention to their beauty. When I think of it, how often I have missed the chance of passing by a patch of roses by the roadway or while taking a walk by the park.

I decided to do a couple of small studies to express the personalities of these flowers while capturing the essence of their colours. Retaining a sketch-like and unfinished feel...with a simple emphasis on 'the flower'.
